Shanesha Taylor was arrested on March 20th by the Scottsdale Police for leaving her children ages 2 and 6 months in her car while she was interviewed for a job. Ms. Taylor was homeless and could not access any child care. Her desperation to provide for herself and her children and her lack of options led her to take drastic measures in search of employment. Ms. Taylor needs support & help rather than incarceration and a criminal record that will surely decrease her chances to provide for her children in the future. We ask that Maricopa County use common-sense and provide support for Ms. Taylor and her children rather than punishment.
Shanesha Taylor is still in jail pending a $9,000 bond.

Help drop the child abuse charges against Shanesha Taylor by signing this petition at change.org. Took the liberty of updating this, since most of the prisoners have been released. I think its also worth noting that the majority of these prisoners have not been charged with offences specific to animal rights/liberation causes but I do believe that they probably support the struggle none-the-less. To label them all animal rights prisoners though is to limit the breadth of struggles they’re all involved in.

Updated again and included the address for Ebba Olausson, a Swedish activist who has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months for actions relating to fur farms in Sweden. Please support them and all other animal rights/eco-prisoners!

Sadly felt the need to update this again to add the address of Debbie Vincent who has just been sentenced today in the UK for 6 years for her involvement in the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences. Please send her a letter of support!

What is scary in this world is oppression and injustice, when people hurt people, animals and nature. What is beautiful in this world is resistance, when people say ‘enough is enough’ and act. Oppression and injustice are everywhere, but so is resistance. Because some people know that if you fight you might lose, but if you don’t fight, you’ve already lost. Debbie Vincent, Blackmail 3 defendant. Debbie was sentenced this morning to 6 years in prison, followed by a 5 year ASBO order for her work with SHAC. (via angry-hippo)

disabledgirlism:

it’s pretty common for people discussing rape culture within feminist discourse to conveniently leave out disabled girls, but this is just a casual reminder that disabled women are far more likely to be sexually assaulted, abused or raped than able-bodied women. on top of that, 50% of deaf girls and 54% of deaf boys have been sexually abused or assaulted. so please stop leaving us out of your discussion about rape culture.

JUST RELEASED UNDERCOVER INVESTIGATION:
Mercy For Animals investigator documented workers at a Maple Leaf chicken hatchery throwing baby chicks by their fragile wings, slamming them into metal dividers, sending them through an industrial washing machine to be scalded and drowned, and violently cramming them into macerators to be ground up alive.

This is just a small display of the systematic cruelties in animal agribusiness. Please consider helping these defenseless birds by taking them off your plate.

I couldn’t even watch all of this. I don’t really see that I should have to, I’ve already accepted that it is wrong and that I want no part of it and am therefore vegan.

If YOU EAT MEAT OR EGGS you NEED to watch this and then if you want to carry on as you were, live with the guilt. Don’t live in ignorance just to make your life easier, because that is selfish and cowardly.

If you think animal experiments are necessary, consider the following

embarrassedtobehuman:

• Less than 2% of human illnesses (1.16%) are ever seen in animals. Over 98% never are.

• At least 50 drugs on the market cause cancer in lab animals. They are allowed because it is admitted that animal tests are not relevant.

• When asked if they agreed that animal experimentation can be misleading because of anatomical and physiological differences between animals and humans, 88% of doctors agreed.

• Rats are 37% effective in identifying what causes cancer in humans.

• According to animal tests lemon juice is deadly poison, but arsenic, hemlock and botulin are safe.

• 40% of patients suffer side effects as a result of prescription treatment.

• Over 200,000 medicines have been released most of which are now withdrawn. According to the World Health Organisation, 240 medicines are ‘essential’.

• Thousands of drugs passed safe in animals have been withdrawn or banned due to their effect on human health.

• Aspirin fails animal tests, as do digitalis (heart drug), cancer treatments, insulin (causes animal birth defects), penicillin and other safe medicines. They would be banned if results from animal experimentation were accurate.

• When the producers of thalidomide were taken to court, they were aquitted after numerous experts agreed animal tests could not be relied on for human medicine.

• At least 450 methods exist with which we can replace animal experiments.

• Morphine puts humans asleep but excites cats.

• 95% of drugs passed by animal tests are immediately disgarded as useless or dangerous to humans.

• One is six patients in hospital are there because the drug they have taken had been passed safe for us on humans after animal tests.

• Worldwide, at least 22 animals die every second in labs. In the UK one animal dies every five seconds.

• The contraceptive pill causes blood clots in humans but it had the opposite effect in dogs.

• We use aspirin for aches and pains. It causes birth defects mice, rabbits and rats.

• Researchers refused to believe that benzene could cause cancer in humans because it failed to in animal tests.

• Dogs failed to predict heart problems caused by the cardiovascular drugs encainide and flecainide, which led to an estimated 3,000 deaths in the USA.

• Heart by pass surgery was put on hold for years because it didn’t work on dogs.

• If we had relied on animal tests we would still believe that humans don’t need vitamin C, that smoking doesn’t cause cause cancer and alcohol doesn’t cause liver damage.

• It was denied for decades that asbestos caused disease in humans because it didn’t in animals.

• Polio researchers were mislead for years about how we catch the disease because they had experimented on monkeys.

• As one researcher points out, “the ultimate dilemma with any animal model of human disease is that it can never reflect the human situation with complete accuracy.”

I did this tattoo pretty spontaneously with Carter Murdoch a few weeks ago (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cartermurdoch/) the same day I did some work for Rhombie Sandoval, who took these luscious photographs (www.rhombie.com).

Carter basically just said that I could do what I wanted, so we spent some time going through his photographs and found a good deal of places where we overlapped in our work. I thought the occulus had a pleasant reminiscence of a camera lens.

If you look, there are little hidden hands and a crystal form.
